John Richard Smith - Attorney at Law

About John & His Practice

John is a member of the State Bar of California and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

He graduated from the George Washington University Law School in 1997. His interest in immigration law started with an internship at Ayuda, Inc.—a neighborhood legal services organization in Washington, D.C.—while he was still attending law school. After graduating from George Washington, John practiced law for small firms in Baltimore, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., before moving to San Diego. He spent three years working for the Legal Aid Society of San Diego, Inc. and opened his own office in March of 2003.

Immigration is a distinct and complicated area of law. Most immigration attorneys focus on only a few specific types of cases within the field. The areas of John’s practice are:

  • Family-based Immigration
  • Naturalization and Citizenship
  • Counseling Regarding Arrests/Convictions and Prior Immigration Violations
  • Defense Against Deportation
  • Waivers of Inadmissibility
  • Asylum

If, after an intake consultation, it is felt that your case could be better handled by another attorney, John will refer you to a qualified professional whose practice is tailored to your specific needs.
